‘Best footballer we have’, ‘stay with us’: Some fans react as reported Rangers target nets late winner

A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have given their thoughts on Daniel Johnson’s latest goalscoring display amid speculation linking him to Ibrox.

Likewise, some Preston supporters have urged their player not to leave following his match-winner last night.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers have held talks with Preston over the 27-year-old midfielder, who is in the last year of his contract at the English club.

The report also claims that Johnson’s club have told him they won’t stand in the way of his “dream move”, as long as Steven Gerrard’s charges cough up enough cash.

The Daily Record added that initial discussions had suggested a deal of around £2million, but apparently it would take more than double that for Preston to take it seriously.

Johnson was left out of Preston’s matchday squad for the English Championship opener to Swansea, a 1-0 home defeat, but was on the bench for the League Cup tie with Derby.

The Rams took the lead through Jason Knight in the 51st minute before Mike te Wiekerk was sent off for the hosts shortly after.

Johnson came on in the 76th minute, not long before Tom Barkhuizen equalised.

In injury time, the reported Ibrox target got the winner from the penalty spot after Tom Buchanan was penalised for handball.

Needless to say, plenty of Rangers and Preston fans had their say on social media after Johnson’s goal:
