'Best display in a Liverpool shirt': Shearer lauds Reds star

Alan Shearer has told the official Premier League website that he felt that Sunday’s display against Manchester United was the best for Naby Keita in a Liverpool shirt.

The Reds produced an astonishing performance in front of goal to win 5-0 at Old Trafford.

It was Keita who scored the opening goal, tucking the ball past David de Gea inside five minutes to set the tone for what was to come, particularly in the first-half.

Of course, it was the Guinea international’s second goal in as many games. He scored a stunner in the 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid a few days earlier.

It comes with the 26-year-old enjoying a superb start to the campaign. And Shearer made a big claim about his display in their latest Premier League victory.

“Keita’s best display in a Liverpool shirt, with a goal, an assist and dominance against Man Utd’s midfield. It’s looking like a breakthrough season for him,” he told the Premier League website.

Of course, Keita’s evening ended early. He had to be stretchered off after 63 minutes after being on the end of a nasty two-footed tackle from Paul Pogba.

It will be a desperate shame if that challenge results in Keita being sidelined for any lengthy period.

He has endured a rotten run of luck with injury during his time on Merseyside. He is already more than halfway to eclipsing his tally of league appearances from last season this term.

As Shearer suggests, it is threatening to be a massive season for the midfielder. So everyone associated with Liverpool will be keeping everything crossed that the news concerning his injury is positive.
