Bernd Leno says he was not surprised to see Arsenal spend £30m on Aaron Ramsdale
Arsenal goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, has been speaking about the signing of Aaron Ramsdale and claims that he is not surprised at the Gunners spending such big money.
The Gunners signed Ramsdale from Sheffield United. The deal is said to be worth up to around £30m to the Blades. At the time, Arsenal’s decision to spend big came in for criticism.
However, Ramsdale has immediately dislodged Leno as number one for the Gunners, and his ‘excellent’ performances have coincided with an upturn in fortunes for the team as a whole.
But Leno, then – who faces a wait on the sidelines for now – believes it was no surprise to see Arsenal spend big money on Ramsdale. The German telling Bild that prices such as £30m are ‘normal’ in England.
“To be honest, I wasn’t surprised about Aaron Ramsdale’s signing, even if it cost almost 30 million euros. The sum may seem high in Germany, but here – as strange as it sounds – it is almost normal,” Leno told Bild.
Leno has been linked with a move to Inter Milan in recent days.
TBR’s View: Leno will need to move or face being number two to Ramsdale
Ramsdale’s start with Arsenal has been superb. And in fairness, it must have shocked Leno as well a bit.
But the fact is, Leno will probably need to leave, or see Ramsdale get a big injury in order to become a number one again. The former Sheffield United man is here for the long haul, and Leno is in trouble.
His admission on the price tag is right, mind. £30m isn’t that much for a top English talent. And at the moment, it looks like money very well spent.
