Bernardo Silva is calling it quits on his Manchester City career at the end of this season.
The Portuguese midfielder will undoubtedly go down as one of the greats when all is said and done.
Silva has been there and done it all at City, and, in the process, he’s played against some of the best players of all-time.
From Lionel Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo, Silva has played against the best of the best.
However, speaking to The Athletic, Bernardo Silva has, interestingly, named a former Tottenham player as his greatest ever opponent.

Bernardo Silva names his greatest opponent
Bernardo Silva has had plenty of battles over the years, but speaking to The Athletic on TikTok, the Manchester City captain named Luka Modric as his toughest ever opponent.
Modric, of course, is most famous for his time at Real Madrid, but before he moved to Spain, he was a Premier League star with Tottenham.
Silva and Modric never met in the Premier League, but this level of praise is certainly noteworthy, and a signal of where Tottenham once were as a club.
Spurs, right now, are in the midst of a relegation battle, but if you rewind 15 years, they had players like Modric, Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart making Spurs a very entertaining side on the biggest of European stages.
Bernardo Silva’s record vs Luka Modric
Bernardo Silva names Modric as his toughest opponent, but, on numerous occasions, the City star has got the better of the Croatian.
Indeed, as the numbers show, this rivalry has been in Silva’s favour, especially in the early days.
| Bernardo Silva’s record vs Luka Modric | |
| Games | 14 |
| Wins | 6 |
| Draws | 3 |
| Losses | 5 |
| Bernardo Silva goals | 4 |
| Luka Modric goals | 1 |
Bernardo Silva won four of his first five games against Modric, but, in more recent years, Modric has had the better of his opposite number.
Who knows? Perhaps this rivalry will be reignited next season over in Serie A. Modric is currently at AC Milan, while Silva has been linked to Juventus, so these two great midfielders could do battle once again in Italy.
