Bernard could make life difficult for Everton newbie Iwobi

New Everton signing Alex Iwobi might have to be patient before he becomes a regular in the side, with winger Bernard having made a bright start to the new season.

The Brazilian was the match-winner on Saturday with his strike against Watford, and the ace impressed from the left.

Last term Bernard spent a lot of time getting to grips with the Premier League, and only really started to come good in the second half of the campaign.

Hopes are high for the £120,000-a-week star (Spotrac) this year now that he knows the league, and the signs are promising.

There’s a chance that his early form could mean Iwobi experiences a difficult start at Goodison Park.

TBR’s view

Iwobi, signed for a fee that could rise to £34 million (BBC Sport), was on the bench against the Hornets and it’s a position he might have to get used to for the time being.

The Nigeria international tends to play from the left, but Bernard looked a real threat all afternoon.

It would perhaps be unwise for Marco Silva to drop the South American, who makes things happen for the Toffees.
