Berardi avoiding season-ending surgery is huge boost to Bielsa’s thin Leeds squad

Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi has postponed season-ending surgery in order to be fit for the Championship promotion push, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

They report that Berardi has suffered a huge hamstring injury, which has to be managed carefully, but surgery on the problem could well have ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

As it is, if the Italian can recover as hoped, he may reportedly be able to contribute to Leeds bid to return to the top flight under Marcelo Bielsa.

And with Leeds beginning to show the strain with a thin squad hit by injuries, Berardi’s commitment to go the extra mile has offered Bielsa a major boost – as well as showing the commitment fans love to see from players.

But Berardi is the kind of full-blooded character that Leeds will need in the closing months of the season and that fighting spirit is what could make the difference between the Whites lasting the pace this time around after years of falling away.

The chance of a recurrence is reportedly heightened for Berardi, but the fact he is willing to put himself in that position underlines the commitment at the club to finally return to the big time – and the defender appears personally willing to do whatever it takes to get there.
