Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist has emerged as a reported target for Celtic this summer, with the Hoops in desperate need for a new number one between the sticks – and the Swiss stopper has told newspaper Blick that he would seriously consider a move to Parkhead this summer.
Siegrist, 29, has been excellent over the course of the last three seasons at Tannadice. Surpassing 100 games for Dundee United towards the end of the season, the ex-Aston Villa man conceded 98 goals in 103 games – keeping 39 clean sheets. He conceded just four in three games against Celtic this term.
The 6ft 5in giant is a target for both Celtic and Ipswich Town, according to the Scottish Sun and now, it appears that Siegrist would be keen on a move to leave Dundee United – and join Celtic. Speaking to Blick, Siegrist – who would cost up to £1million – said: “If there is interest, I’ll take a close look.”

TBR’s view – Siegrist a good goalkeeper, and very good value for money
But is he the calibre of goalkeeper that Celtic need? Will he provide confidence to his defence and excite fans? Probably not. But certainly, his performances for Dundee United will have caught the eye of Celtic suppporters – especially his clean sheet against Celtic in March.
If Celtic can get him for less than £1million, then that is clearly a bargain and saves money for other positions. But realistically, Celtic need to be looking at bigger and better options before going in for Siegrist.
