Premier League fans have been getting excited for Marcelo Bielsa’s debut in the top-flight ever since Leeds won promotion from the Championship. For the football hipsters out there, it has been an even longer wait.
The much-revered Argentine took his intrepid Leeds side to Liverpool this weekend, in a tough opening fixture against the reigning Premier League champions.
But the West Yorkshire club did themselves proud with an impressive display, eventually losing 4-3 in a thriller at Anfield.
One man who clearly appreciated the performance was a player who is likely to be battling Liverpool for the Premier League title this season.
Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy is certainly excited about having Bielsa’s boys in the top-flight.
Replying to Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker on Twitter, Mendy seemed to suggest fans should have popcorn at the ready whenever Leeds are playing this season.
With Bielsa its always good fun 😎🍿

Of course, Mendy has a special reason to appreciate Bielsa. The Leeds United boss helped develop him into the player he is today during his time managing Marseille and, in the past, Pep Guardiola’s injury-prone left-back has made it clear the impact Bielsa has had on his career.
Now it seems he is excited to see his old boss work his magic in the top-flight.
