Benitez should send Sorensen out on loan if he feels he is not first-team ready

Elias Sorensen scored his 15th goal of the season for Newcastle’s under-23 side last night.

In the EFL Trophy against Grimsby Town, Newcastle’s youngster ran out 3-2 winners with Sorensen picking up a goal and an assist.

Sorensen has been prolific for Newcastle’s youth side this season, prompting many calls for him to be fast-tracked into the first-team.

The Denmark youth international, however, has thus far been ignored by Rafa Benitez, despite Newcastle’s worries in front of goal.

Benitez watches Sorensen in training and has made the call that he is not ready for first-team inclusion yet.

And the Spaniard could be making a wise call. Sorensen cannot be expected to make the massive leap from youth team football to the Premier League and spearhead the Newcastle attack in a relegation battle.

That is too much pressure on the young man’s shoulders.

With Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon finding the net in the last couple of matches, Newcastle have now started scoring goals and picking up wins.

But with Sorensen scoring goals for fun at youth level, he does need more of a challenge.

Benitez should send the 19-year-old out on loan when the January window opens, to test him in senior football.

Of his 15 goals this season, Sorensen has three in three against senior opposition in the EFL Trophy.

If he can replicate his form while out on loan, then Newcastle could start to blood him into the senior side for next season.
