Benitez can instantly win Everton fans over by beating Liverpool to Euro 2020 star - TBR View
Everton are reportedly in the race to sign Denmark star Mikkel Damsgaard, as are Liverpool.
The Toffees and the Reds are the latest clubs eyeing the 21-year-old attacking ace, according to Calciomercato.
As well as Everton and Liverpool, the likes of Tottenham, Leeds, West Ham and Leicester have also been linked with the £26m man.
Benitez’s appointment at Goodison Park may have split opinion amongst Evertonians, but pipping Liverpool to Damsgaard’s signing would help him win more fans over.
This is not just a case of getting one over on the red side of the city, but also because Damsgaard is a top, top talent.
And having Benitez at Everton could be a big selling point for prospective new signings.
His CV boasts some of the biggest clubs in the world, as well as plenty of trophies.
In addition, he has worked with some of the best footballers in recent history of the last 20 years and got the best out of them.
Damsgaard could see a club with a top manager at the helm, a brand new stadium on the horizon and plenty of first-team opportunities.
Who is Mikkel Damsgaard?
Damsgaard is a versatile player who can feature on the wings, in central midfield and as a No. 10.
He joined Sampdoria last September from Danish outfit Nordsjaelland.
The Italians reportedly paid £5.8m, making him Nordsjaelland’s third most profitable sale.
Damsgaard hit the ground running and clubs reportedly began monitoring him within months of joining.
He made 35 Serie A appearances last season, registering two goals and four assists.
Damsgaard has also been superb for Denmark over the past few weeks, putting himself firmly in the shop window.
He got on the scoresheet against England on Wednesday night with a superb free kick and was a constant thorn in the Three Lions’ side.
Nordsjaelland chairman Jan Laursen recently compared Damsgaard to Manchester City and Belgium star Kevin De Bruyne.
