Beni Baningime’s Everton downfall highlighted by Dennis Adeniran’s rise

As reported by the Liverpool Echo this week, three Everton youngsters are currently training with the first-team at Goodison Park.

The report states that Anthony Gordon, Lewis Gibson and Dennis Adeniran are all training with Marco Silva’s side after impressing in pre-season.

Adeniran could even be in line for a first-team call-up for this weekend’s clash with Watford. As reported by Sky Sports, Everton agreed a £4 million deal to bring the midfielder from Fulham in 2017 and after some injury trouble, he is finally making his mark at Finch Farm.

But what does it all mean for another midfield general at Everton?

At one point, it looked like Beni Baningime was the next big breakthrough star from the Everton youth system.

He came onto the scene at Everton in 2017-18, especially under the guidance of caretaker manager David Unsworth. He worked his way into the set-up under Sam Allardyce as well and was handed a new contract in the summer of 2018 as a reward for his excellent campaign.

However, 2018-19 saw him go backward. Baningime suffered with an ankle injury and a subsequent loan move to Wigan Athletic in January saw him play just once for the club.

It was a tough campaign and now it seems that when it comes to the pecking order, Adeniran has done more to impress Silva than the DR Congo-born midfielder.

It remains to be seen if Everton find a way to loan Baningime elsewhere before the end of transfer windows around Europe and the lower leagues.

But it certainly seems as though the 20-year-old has not made the strides many fans expected back in 2017.
