Liverpool and Manchester City have both been linked with a Benfica wonder-kid, according to reports in Portugal. Portuguese newspaper Record claims that the Premier League’s top two want Francisco Reis Ferreira, who is better known as Ferro.

The 21-year-old centre-back is highly rated and regarded as one of the most exciting young talents around.

Despite only making his debut in February, he has already proven that he is an accomplished player in the Portuguese top flight, adding goals to defensive solidity.

Ferro has several options on the table ahead of the summer transfer window and a move to England might tempt him.

Liverpool must be an attractive destination, given that he would have the chance to work with Virgil Van Dijk and learn from one of the world’s best centre-backs.

Van Dijk has been a mainstay in Jurgen Klopp’s defence. He is usually partnered by Joe Gomez but his injury record means that Ferro would have a good chance of stepping in.

Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip have filled in as back-up choices but they could be upgraded on and that’s where Ferro could come in.

The Portugal under-21 starlet has the potential to become a top central defender one day and learning from Van Dijk would improve his game significantly.
