Ben White has told Brighton’s official website that Leeds United will always hold a place in his heart as he paid tribute to the club’s supporters.

White has put an end to talk about his future by signing a new four-year deal at Brighton. The announcement came after the centre-back enjoyed a stunning year on loan at Elland Road.

And as noted by Sky Sports, Leeds attempted to keep him on a permanent basis this summer. They made three bids for the 22-year-old, with one offer worth £25 million.

The writing had been on the wall for Marcelo Bielsa’s side for a little while however. Sky Sports reported Brighton had made it clear that he was not for sale.

Leeds seemed to eventually accept their stance as they made a move to sign Freiburg’s Robin Koch.

And following the news that White has signed a new contract with the Seagulls, the defender expressed his gratitude to Leeds and their fans.

“I also want to thank the Leeds supporters, they were unbelievable every single week. Even when they weren’t allowed to be there,” he told Brighton’s official website.

“They were very good to me, and were always really supportive to me and the rest of the team – and the club will always be special to me.

“I hope the fans will be allowed back by the time we play there, and I just hope that I will get a good reception when we go back!”

TBR View: Leeds disappointment understandable after inspired loan spell

There is no question that Koch has big shoes to fill at Elland Road. White was an inspired signing for the club. It is remarkable to think that he went into last season having not played at a level higher than League One.

It proved to be the perfect loan move for both the player and Leeds. White has now staked a massive claim to play regularly at the highest level. And his performances helped ensure that Bielsa’s men will be there alongside him this coming season.
