Ben White praises Arsenal goalkeeping duo Aaron Ramsdale and Bernd Leno

Arsenal defender Ben White has been singing the praises of some of his teammates today, and insisted that having both Aaron Ramsdale and Bernd Leno in the squad is good for everyone.

Ramsdale, a £30m summer signing from Sheffield United this year, has quickly dislodged his German counterpart as the number one for Mikel Arteta. He enjoyed a fine start, too, keeping three clean-sheets in his opening four games.

For Leno, times are now tough. But being an experienced stopper, he will know full well the rigours that come with being a professional player at a big club like Arsenal.

And speaking to Stadium Astro today, Arsenal’s other new signing, Ben White, insists having both onboard is great news for the club.

“I’ve known Ramsdale from a long time ago. Obviously nice for him to be in the team. But I think both have such amazing qualities,” White said.

“They’re pushing each other every day. And I think that’s what you need in the Premier League to keep pushing you and getting better.”

Ramsdale enjoyed a fine second half to last season. Despite being in a woeful looking Sheffield United side, the stopper produce some good displays and was selected in England’s Euro 2020 squad.

TBR’s View: Great for Arsenal…for now

It’s good to have players in every position pushing for minutes. We see it with outfielders and we see it with big clubs in the sticks, too.

But for how long it continues at Arsenal remains to be seen. Leno will not want to stick around as a number two behind a younger stopper like Ramsdale. And with interest in him in the summer just gone, clubs will likely come in again in January.

So, while White is right that competition is healthy, Leno could well push himself out of the picture altogether in the future.
