Ben White has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he believes Leeds United will be “up there” at the end of the season when asked if the Whites can gain promotion to the Premier League.

White, 22, has been a sensational signing for Leeds since joining the club in the summer on a season-long loan from Brighton. He signed a relative unknown, after spells at Newport and Peterborough on loan and without a senior Seagulls outing.

But Marcelo Bielsa saw through that. It is the centre-back’s ability on the ball, as a defender, that enticed the Argentine manager to bring him to Elland Road – that despite his lack of experience, failing to even play as high as the Championship.

This season, he has played every minute of Leeds’ 14 Championship matches – testament to his displays. Asked whether Leeds can gain promotion this season, White delivered a verdict that will excite Leeds fans.

“I think we’ll definitely be up there,” White said. “It’s the details and the points that we pick up like today. It’s the little things that count. I’m happy here so hopefully we can do something this season.

“It’s a very special club. Everyone knows that. It’s an honour to play for such a big club like Leeds. Winning promotion would be amazing. The aims are just to keep winning. I haven’t thought about the long-term goals, I’m taking every game as it comes.”

TBR’s view – What do Leeds need to do to get promoted?

The most obvious change between what we have seen in the first 14 matches and the end of the season, is the ability to convert more chances into goals. Despite sitting in third, Leeds have scored just 17 goals in 14 league games.

Either Patrick Bamford must restore his confidence and fire in the goals, or Eddie Nketiah needs to start. Meanwhile, injuries need to remain light and Leeds have got to bring in a new centre-back as cover for White and Liam Cooper.

A bit more consistency, and Leeds can end their 16-year wait for Premier League football. White’s future, meanwhile, is unsure at this stage with Brighton valuing White at a whopping £20million – as per The Argus.
