Former Leeds defender Ben Parker believes Ben White has proved to be an upgrade on departed defender Pontus Jansson this season.
As per the Yorkshire Evening Post, Parker indicated he was a huge fan of the Brighton loanee in terms of how well he’s settled in on and off the pitch.
He said: “Pontus is a good player, a big character, fans liked him. We just had Ben White coming to the club; for him to step up and be an upgrade on Pontus speaks volumes. That he’s gone away with Kalvin with the two girlfriends shows how well he has settled.
“Out on a pitch, different class, superb. Never slides in, never caught out of position. Whatever he does is the right thing and that’s what you want from a centre-half. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with his future because you could see him playing at this club for 10-plus years the way he’s going.”
TBR’s View – White is a far better fit for Bielsa’s style than Jansson was
Jansson created a dilemma for Bielsa. He was a strong character in the dressing room, popular with the fans (most of the time) and a physical, strong centre half in a squad which was light in that area.
But he wasn’t a good fit for his style of football and his maverick qualities did not fit well with the devotion Bielsa demands from his players in terms of buying into his approach.
White is far better suited; a more technical centre half, who can be more easily moulded by the Argentine. There may be times this season when Jansson’s experience and no-nonsense style is missed, but White is a Bielsa centre half.
