Ben Parker believes that Leeds United attacker Helder Costa has looked far more direct recently and claims he’s come into some great form.
The Whites have picked up 13 points out of a possible 15 in their previous five league games and their automatic promotion bid remains firmly in their hands still.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side sit five points clear of third-placed Fulham and are currently preparing for a weekend fixture at home to Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield Town at Elland Road.
Costa is someone that has been an ever-present in the Leeds XI this season and he’s played every single minute of the last nine consecutive league matches.
The Portuguese right-winger always offers a tremendous work-rate both up and down the pitch, plus he’s got the individual ability to dribble past defenders.
He impressed in the 4-0 away win at Hull City last weekend and former Whites defender Parker has singled him out.
“Helder Costa has come into some great run of form as well. Been really direct, is a big positive,” Parker told LUTV.
TBR’s View – Costa’s statistics tell different story
Costa is one of the Leeds players that manager Bielsa stands by on a weekly basis and he fits the style perfectly of the Argentine boss.
But he doesn’t have the statistics of late to suggest he’s in sensational touch and there is definitely more he could be doing in the promotion bid.
Despite looking bright in recent weeks, Costa hasn’t scored since December and it would be great for him to break that duck against Huddersfield and really kick on for the rest of the campaign.
The dazzling wide star has four goals and five assists across all competitions this season, which is a little below par for a player of his ability.
Costa is certainly a deserving member of the Leeds starting line up right now and looks a threat, but there could still be more to come from him in the remainder of the season.
