Ben Parker claims Leeds forward Patrick Bamford has added extra pace

Ben Parker has claimed that Leeds Untied’s Patrick Bamford has added extra pace to his game.

Bamford, who earns £35,000-a-week (Spotrac), has been a real talisman in attack for the Whites this season and scored in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on Monday.

The left-footed striker now has 12 goals in 22 Premier League games this campaign, with plenty suggesting he could be in line for a first senior England call-up.

He’s an all-action centre-forward that offers a lot off the ball to fit the system of Marcelo Bielsa’s side, plus he’s now scoring goals more regularly than he did last year during the title-winning Championship season.

Parker reckons that the 27-year-old has definitely added a yard of pace to his game.

“I can’t remember too many players, either Leeds or elsewhere, who have have gone away and worked at their game and put that much pace added onto their game,” Parker told the LS11 podcast.

“Usually, you might be a bit sharp. Patrick looks like he could do 100m from 12 seconds down to 10.”

TBR’s View:

Bamford’s speed is perhaps an underrated aspect of his game, as he’s not someone you think of when asked the quickest strikers around.

He’s certainly a great athlete, like the entire Leeds squad, that can run tirelessly for 90 minutes and he’s great at pressing from the front.

It’s going to be tough for England boss Gareth Southgate to fit him in the squad given all the competition, but he’s doing everything right to put him in contention.
