Ben Foster says Yaya Toure picked Mikel Arteta over Pep Guardiola

Ben Foster has said on his YouTube channel how Yaya Toure picked Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta over Pep Guardiola when asked to choose between the two in a recent video.

Arteta is threatening to put up the greatest challenge to Guardiola’s Manchester City side this season. The Gunners top the Premier League table after securing another impressive win at the weekend.

Many are still expecting City to run away with the title. They have been on another planet at times this season. And obviously, with Erling Haaland leading the line, it is hard to see who is going to be able to really stop the Cityzens.

But Arsenal are silencing most of their doubters at a rapid rate. They have already overcome a number of hurdles that proved to be too big for them last season.

And it seems that Arteta has plenty of admirers in the game. In fact, one coach – now at Tottenham, of course – would take the Spaniard over Guardiola.

Toure worked with both while at Manchester City. Arteta became one of Guardiola’s assistants in 2016. And Foster claimed that Toure told him that he was a bigger fan of the Arsenal boss.

“Funnily enough, we did a video with Yaya Toure the other day. It was an EA FIFA 23 video and I like to do my own thing where it’s like a this or that,” he told his YouTube channel. “And one of the questions I had to Yaya Toure was Pep Guardiola or Mikel Arteta. And do you know who he said? Mikel Arteta. He went for Mikel Arteta.”

Of course, it should be noted that Toure and Guardiola do not appear to have had the best relationship at times. But Toure achieved so much while playing for Guardiola.

Plenty will ridicule Toure’s selection. Obviously, Arteta has a lot more to prove before he is considered a world-class manager. But he is clearly on the right path.

The improvement the Gunners have made has been significant. And it does appear that they have a serious amount of potential with Arteta at the helm.

It will be very interesting to see how Toure’s claim is reflected upon in the coming years.
