Ben Foster says Arsenal need to sign someone just like player Tottenham sold

It’s set to be yet another busy summer at Arsenal as Mikel Arteta continues to build a side capable of regularly competing for the biggest honours.

Much was made about Arsenal’s decision not to bring in a striker in January after they were struggling for goals over the festive period.

Mikel Arteta’s men went on to prove their doubters wrong by putting an incredible run of form together in 2024.

Indeed, the Gunners won 10 of their last 11 Premier League games before a defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.

During this period, Arsenal netted 38 times and stormed to the top of the table. But following the 2-0 loss to Villa, the same questions over the lack of a natural goalscorer at Arsenal have re-emerged.

Arteta’s side were wasteful in the final third against Villa, with the likes of Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus all missing chances.

And Ben Foster believes Arsenal need to sign a player like former Tottenham star Harry Kane.

Foster urges Arsenal to sign a striker like Harry Kane

Speaking on The Fozcast, the former Manchester United man reacted to Arsenal’s shock defeat against Villa.

“I kept saying to Louis, my son’s an Arsenal fan, every time Arsenal had a chance and they had lots of them in that first half, I know Watkins hit the post but they had some many chances,” Foster said.

“Saka had a good chance but takes a bad tough and hit it into the side netting. Havertz had chances, Jesus. I said to him [his son] that if Arsenal had Harry Kane up front, if they had a Kane-like player, clinical killer, somebody that would take those chances and put them into the back of the net, they’d be 3-0 up here at halftime. He was like yeah, I totally agree.

“That is Arsenal’s problem, probably similar to Liverpool a little bit. But Arsenal, it’s so glaring they haven’t got that guy who’ll clinically put that ball in the back of the net.”

Arsenal transfer rumours

Arteta is expected to bolster his squad once again this summer and a new striker could be high on the Spaniard’s list.

Ivan Toney looks set to leave Brentford this summer and recent reports have even claimed he could be available for as little as £40 million.

Ollie Watkins is also of interest to Arsenal and the striker displayed what he could bring to north London by netting at the Emirates on Sunday.

Elsewhere, the Gunners look set to reinforce their options in the middle of the park, with Arteta said to be keen on Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.
