Much of the transfer talk surrounding Tottenham Hotspur recently has revolved around their need for another central defender. Toby Alderweireld’s future at the club has long been in doubt and several expensive options have been mentioned as a solution.
For example, Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake and Matthijs De Ligt are believed to be targets. The pair is valued, respectively, at £40 million and £52 million, according to reports.
Tottenham, however, seem very unlikely to spend that sort of money in the immediate future. In fact, with Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth also in tow, it might be Tottenham decide not to replace Alderweireld if he does leave.

Especially as it appears Ben Davies is capable of filling in at the role.
The left-back has played in the position before, usually as part of a three with the Welsh national team. However, he played at centre-back against Burnley yesterday and thrived after recent struggles at left-back.
Tottenham fans were very impressed with his display and enjoyed him coming out of defence in possession of the ball.
It just gives Mauricio Pochettino an extra insurance at the heart of defence knowing that Davies can do a job there when needed to. With Eric Dier also present, Tottenham might be able to avoid spending big on a centre-back and divert their funds to other areas of the team.
