Tottenham’s Ben Davies has given big credit to his defensive teammate Joe Rodon after he made his first start for the club last weekend in the Premier League and believes he took his chance in the side.
Davies, who earns £60,000-a-week (Spotrac), watched his fellow Wales international start during Spurs’ 0-0 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Rodon was thrown into the XI by manager Jose Mourinho and certainly didn’t look out of place on the Premier League stage, as he was real physical presence in the backline.
The 23-year-old centre-back was perhaps fortunate with one lapse in concentration at the end of the match, but overall it was a positive full debut for the £11million signing (BBC) and it looks like he could turn out being a bargain.
Spurs left-back Davies, 27, has given a glowing verdict on Rodon’s weekend display:
“I think Stamford Bridge against the quality they have is a real tough game to come into with your first one,” Davies responded when asked about Rodon’s debut (Football.London).
“I thought with the challenges he was up against during the game, the intensity of it all, you know he didn’t have too many options on the ball sometimes, but I thought he really stood up to it and he just had to be patient but he deserved his chance and took it.”

TBR’s View:
With senior defender Toby Alderweireld missing through injury against Chelsea, it was a big decision from Mourinho to start Rodon for the first time in the heart of defence and he managed to repay his faith.
Rodon played ahead of £42million man (BBC) Davinson Sanchez in the crunch fixture with London rivals Chelsea and it suggests he’s made a big impression in training since he joined from Championship club Swansea back in October.
