Bellingham reacts to Jordan Henderson's display in England win
Jude Bellingham has told ITV (broadcast on 4/12; 21:12) that Jordan Henderson is so underrated, and insisted that it is time that the Liverpool skipper gets some respect after his performance for England in their win over Senegal on Sunday.
Gareth Southgate’s men are through to the quarter-final of the World Cup after a superb display against the AFCON champions.
England came under pressure during the first-half. But any nerves were settled by two goals just before the break. And it was Henderson who broke the deadlock.
Bellingham praises Henderson
The Liverpool skipper caught up with Bellingham as the Borussia Dortmund star broke into the box. Bellingham played a brilliant ball into Henderson’s path. And the 32-year-old made absolutely no mistake, finding the back of the net with his left foot.
Henderson’s inclusion in the side has been something of a divisive issue during the tournament. But he vindicated Southgate’s faith in some style on Sunday.
But Bellingham has insisted that Henderson had absolutely nothing to prove. The 19-year-old hit out at the criticism coming the Liverpool star’s way ahead of the last 16 tie.
“Brilliant performance today,” he told ITV. “I’ve seen some of the rubbish written about him playing and it’s ridiculous. He’s so underrated, technically.
“And he’s delivered again in a big game with a massive goal. So I think it’s time he gets a bit of respect.”
Liverpool fans would have relished seeing Henderson and Bellingham link up so well. Of course, Bellingham has been heavily linked with the Reds. 90min reported that they were scouting him ahead of the tournament.
Signing the teenager is certainly not going to be easy for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
But clearly, getting the chance to work alongside Henderson on a more consistent basis would surely appeal to Bellingham.
