‘Bellerin puts forward his case’ – Three things learnt from Arsenal 1-0 Leicester

Leicester are resolute under Craig Shakespeare

It’s been common knowledge that since Craig Shakespeare took over the helm at Leicester City, results and performances have massively improved from the Foxes.

Part of this has been down to the fact that the defence has re-found its stubborn, resolute nature that was the hallmark whilst leading Leicester to their Premier League title last season.

Under the cosh against Arsenal for most of the night at the Emirates – during the first half the visitors only had 27% of the possession – they showed a dogged determination that has hauled them away from a relegation battle and a discipline that shows real signs of promise for next season.

There’s been a noticeable improvement in Leicester’s discipline, and even without the influential Wes Morgan, Yohan Benalouane has come in and excelled alongside Robert Huth in defence.

Huth in particular was excellent on Wednesday evening, dominating in the air against the likes of Walcott and Alexis Sanchez, whilst he put made a superb last-ditch tackle with the latter in on goal.

It was harsh, then, that it was his deflection that unravelled all of Leicester’s good work so late in the game, but Shakespeare can have no issues with the performance his side put in at the Emirates.
