Emile Smith Rowe has told The Telegraph that Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign him when he was 16, before sharing his reaction to having the chance to leave Arsenal for their biggest rivals.

Smith Rowe is a player that everyone is talking about right now. The 21-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding start to the Premier League season.

It is easy to forget that he has been a first-team regular at the Emirates for less than a year. But he goes into this international break with four goals under his belt in the top flight this season.

And that form has seen him rewarded. When Marcus Rashford and James Ward Prowse withdrew from the England squad, Gareth Southgate handed the attacking midfielder his first call-up to the senior side.

It has been a remarkable journey for Smith Rowe. And he may feel that the England opportunity is vindication for his decision to stay at Arsenal when the chance came up to move on.

Ahead of potentially making his international bow, Smith Rowe revealed that Spurs wanted him around five years ago. But, while he suggested that he was pleased to attract attention, he insisted that he was never convinced about leaving.

“I wasn’t that interested, being an Arsenal fan, although it’s good to have all these teams interested,” he said, as reported by The Telegraph.

Smith Rowe dismissing Tottenham move will obviously delight Arsenal fans

Smith Rowe is one player within the Arsenal squad who probably did not need to worry about increasing his popularity.

And yet, he has potentially managed it by dismissing the notion of joining Spurs a few years back.

Smith Rowe is one of the most exciting young players playing in the Premier League.

And he is one of the players who has been pivotal in getting Arsenal moving in the right direction once again.
