'Been some improvements': Arsenal's chances of signing 'fantastic' star increase, journalist claims
Ian McGarry and Duncan Castles have both told the Transfer Window podcast that Arsenal’s chances of landing Ben White have increased in the past week, but they have not sealed a deal yet.
There were claims that Arsenal were confident of landing White and Chris Wheatley went as far as saying that the transfer was secured.
However, that was before Everton’s interest emerged and now Castles says that Chelsea are keen.
That being said, Arsenal have now upped their offer for the 23-year-old central defender, who has been labelled ‘fantastic’ by Ian Wright (ITV).
And McGarry and Castles had an update on the deal, after hearing information over the last few days.
“Apparently there has been some improvements/progress in a possible move for the Brighton defender,” McGarry said.
And Castles added: “My understanding is that this week they (Arsenal) have improved their offer, increased the initial down payment and made the schedule of the payments over the course of the contract more attractive to Brighton. But as yet there is not an agreement between the two clubs on the transfer fee.
“Why not an agreement? I think it’s the degree of interest in White, his age – young England international – his speed and comfort on the ball.”
The update looks encouraging, although the doubt over and deal will cause some concern.
The good news for Arsenal is that any deal will surely be sorted sooner rather than later.
White is currently away with the England squad at Euro 2020, but the tournament should be over in under a week’s time.
If Arsenal were to land White ahead of the competition he could be a pivotal player in Mikel Arteta’s rebuild.
Arsenal are committing a significant fee to attempting to land White, and he would surely arrive as an integral part of Arteta’s defence if he was to pen a contract at the Emirates Stadium.
