‘Beautifully ugly’: Liam Cooper sends message of support to Leeds United squad

Leeds United ground out a 1-0 win over Burnley this afternoon to cement their position in the table and put them halfway to the magical 40 points mark.

Patrick Bamford’s early penalty was enough to see off the resilient Clarets, who were unlucky at times and perhaps should have had a goal when Ashley Barnes saw his finish cruelly chalked off.

However, it was not to be for the away side and after conceding six at Old Trafford, Leeds showed they can have some resilience about them, with Ilan Meslier in impressive form in the sticks.

And that was the point missing skipper, Liam Cooper, was ramming home on Twitter as he took to social media to sing the praises of his teammates following the win.

Cooper missed the game and watched on as a makeshift defence including Pascal Strujik and at times, Kalvin Phillips, did well to keep an aggressive Burnley attack at bay for the 90 minutes.

Leeds will be hoping to build on this latest clean-sheet, which was Meslier’s fifth of what has been an impressive debut Premier League campaign for the young stopper.

Any notion that the Whites might get dragged into some sort of relegation battle was put to bed with this display.

Bielsa’s men showed fight, desire, and a willingness to put bodies on the line to keep the ball out of the net. That is needed at times, especially if you can only nick the single goal.

Leeds will be just fine and this performance above all else epitomised why they’ll continue to pick up points going into 2021.
