Manchester United are increasingly confident of beating Tottenham to sign Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to the Daily Mirror.
They claim that the Red Devils feel they have the financial clout to win the intense race to sign the powerhouse and that the fee could be pushed up to £90m.
That could put Tottenham off, and Mauricio Pochettino’s claim last week that he needs to offload some players before getting any new faces in could also provide a stumbling block.
But Mousa Dembele’s days in north London look numbered, which could go some way to freeing up the wages and the spot in the side for Ndombele and Spurs are surely a more appealing prospect than United right now, regardless of money.

But if Pochettino can convince Ndombele to join his Spurs project, he would have the ideal replacement for the outgoing Belgian, who can go on and become even better.
Ndombele is showing his quality on the Champions League stage and has gone toe to toe with Manchester City twice this season and Lyon have lost on neither occasion.
He has a more attacking mentality than Dembele and can get on the scoresheet as well; so could well go on to be a vast improvement if he is the man to replace the former Fulham man.
