Glenn Murray criticised Micky van de Ven during today’s Premier League clash between Tottenham and Brighton.

The 40-year-old made the comments when speaking on Final Score for BBC Sport.

So, what did Glenn Murray say about Micky van de Ven? Let’s take a look…

What Murray said about Van de Ven

Well, the man from Maryport took aim at the Netherlands international, after he fouled Danny Welbeck and gave away a penalty earlier today.

Pascal Gross took the responsibility from 12 yards and scored to put Brighton 1-0 up.

Speaking about the Dutchman’s reckless challenge, Murray said: “Micky van de Ven swings out a lazy leg and catches Danny Welbeck. Definite penalty.”

It was certainly a clumsy moment from the £100,000-a-week man.

Van de Ven will not want to see that challenge again – to say the least.

Van de Ven will only get better at Tottenham

The 22-year-old may have cost Spurs a goal today, although mistakes like this will only make the Tottenham No.37 a better footballer.

Ange Postecoglou certainly thinks Van de Ven – who recently went down as the quickest Premier League player ever – has many more gears to move up into.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday, the Australian said: “He’s up against top strikers every week and his ability to use that speed in such an effective way in terms of his defensive work, I think has been outstanding for such a young man in his first year.

“Don’t forget before he came to us he’d only had one year in the Bundesliga, so there is so much more to come from him but I have been really pleased with just the way he has gone up to this level and used what he has as his strengths.”

Hopefully, Van de Ven does not let his head drop after today’s error against Brighton, and he uses it to his advantage as motivation to improve.
