‘A liability’: BBC pundit says Tottenham have someone else other than Emerson who costs them in big games

Hugo Lloris had a bit of a nightmare against Arsenal this weekend as Tottenham lost 3-1, and the BBC’s Garth Crooks has laid into him.

Crooks was writing in his weekly column for the BBC where he picks his team of the week. Of course, no Spurs players made it in this time around, while Crooks selected a number of Arsenal stars. And instead of selecting Tottenham players, Crooks instead used his platform to lament goalkeeper Lloris.

After the Frenchman allowed Gabriel Jesus to score Arsenal’s second, the BBC pundit claims that Lloris is now becoming a liability for Antonio Conte.

“Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris makes ordinary saves look unnecessarily spectacular and is a liability in the games that matter. What was equally disturbing was Conte’s lack of ability to see that Emerson Royal was totally incapable of dealing with the threat of Gabriel Martinelli and his sending-off ultimately cost Spurs the match,” Crooks wrote.

Lloris has made more than 400 appearances for Tottenham and is a club legend. However, he was at fault against The Gunners and is relatively unchallenged when it comes to being Spurs’ number one. Fraser Forster was signed in the summer, but the former Celtic man is not going to dislodge Lloris any time yet.

TBR’s View: Lloris Still Vital For Tottenham

The stopper is still important to Tottenham and will continue to be for the foreseeable. The big problem Spurs have is finding someone to replace him in the long-term. For now, they only have eyes on the short-term.

That means the club will need to find someone in the next few windows who is going to be good enough to take over from the Frenchman eventually.

Despite his mistake this week, they’re going to be big shoes to fill shoes to fill for any potential new Spurs ‘keeper.
