BBC Pundit Clinton Morrison has slammed Tottenham defender Emerson Royal today after he spent the whole game moaning against Newcastle.
Emerson was once again selected in the right wing-back slot by Antonio Conte. The Brazilian has been a regular feature for Spurs this season but it’s fair to say he isn’t the most favoured player in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And Morrison, who was on commentary for the BBC today, felt that the full-back needed to focus on his game more instead of arguing with players all day.
“All Royal does is talk the whole game. He needs to do his job better instead of talking and wanting to argue with every player who is coming off the pitch and getting substituted on,” Morrison said on BBC comms.
Royal was seen giving it to the referee as well at one point. During a VAR check for a potential handball against him, Royal seemed to never stop shouting at the ref, who in the end, ruled in Emerson’s favour anyway.
TBR’s View: Conte Needs Better Than Emerson Royal
It’s baffling really that Emerson Royal keeps getting the nod. His performances have been so poor for a side chasing the top four and Antonio Conte simply needs a better player in his position.
Sure, Royal puts his all in to things and there can’t be many who fault that. But the quality in his game is missing, and in attacking areas he really seems to let Spurs down.
Whether or not Mat Doherty can make that position his own in the future remains to be seen. If not, Conte might well be asking for a new face at wing-back come January.
