‘He looks tired’: BBC pundit claims one Spurs player needed a ‘kick up the backside’ against Brighton

Tottenham might have won at Brighton tonight and kept a clean-sheet but the BBC’s Tony Pulis found time to criticise Cristian Romero.

The Argentinian defender had a few wayward moments against the Seagulls but in the end, was part of a Tottenham side who kept the ball out of the net and picked up a vital three points.

One of those moments from Romero came late on in the game as Brighton pushed for an equaliser. And picking up on the mishap, Pulis commented on how the defender needed a kick from his teammates.

“Cristian Romero needs a kick up the backside there. He looks tired. Tottenham really have to dig in because Brighton are pushing and pushing,” Pulis said on BBC comms.

The no-nonsense defender has been one of the clubs best signings in recent times. His performances since arriving in London have been exceptional and he’s a key figure at the back for Conte and his team.

However, moments like today could prove costly against some of the ‘better’ sides in the league, where certain forwards might well punish Romero that bit more.

All in all, though, a win at Brighton is not to be sniffed at and Tottenham can leave the weekend feeling happy with a good night’s work.

TBR’s View: Romero Not Quite At It

Look, it can happen. Defenders can have the odd lapse, especially when a team is pushing them back like Brighton were throughout that second 45 minutes.

However, Romero remains an absolutely key figure for Tottenham. And even when he’s making the odd rash decision, he’s still one of their best players.

Pulis is right to pick up on his errors today, but ultimately, Romero is vital for any success Spurs think they can get this season.
