Liverpool earned their first home win of the season by seeing off Brentford today but it wasn’t without incident for the home side either.
Arne Slot’s side stepped it up a gear in the second half as they did at Ipswich last week and in the end, they had too much for Brentford.
For Liverpool and their home fans, it was vitally important to see a win at Anfield at the first attempt.
Goals from Luis Diaz and then Mo Salah settled everything down inside the stadium and that second goal was very much needed.
Indeed, Brentford were actually causing issues, especially from set-pieces, and Liverpool did have goalkeeper Alisson Becker to thank for some big saves.
One such save, from a Nathan Collins header, was particularly important and watching on for the BBC, former England stopper Paul Robinson lauded Alisson’s ability.

Alisson Becker shows his class with ‘fantastic’ save v Brentford
Speaking on the comms for BBC Radio Five Live, Robinson commented on how not doing anything flashy marks Alisson out from others.
“There is a perfect example that goalkeepers don’t have to dive to make an impressive save. It’s good reactions from Alisson,” Robinson said.
“It is fantastic reactions and he is quick enough to get on the second.”
Of course, Liverpool are glad they still have their number one after a summer of rumour.
Alisson has apparently opted against a move to Saudi Arabia and based on this save here and a few others, it’s a good job he has stayed.
Rio Ferdinand has commented on Alisson being a true world class player in the past and it is moments like this one here that prove it.
Liverpool will have days this season where Alisson very much needs to bail out the team.
And while it wasn’t quite at bailing out level today, Alisson did very much show how important he is to the Liverpool cause.
