BBC pundit says West Ham's fantastic recruitment has helped them land a truly 'top class' player
West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek has been praised by BBC Sport pundit Lucy Ward, who says the Hammers ace is truly “top class”.
After an initial loan spell at the London Stadium last season, West Ham decided to sign Soucek permanently in the summer for around £19million.
The former Slavia Prague man has been brilliant for David Moyes’ side, one of the key factors behind the club’s great form this season.
Soucek has made 37 Premier League appearances this term, scoring 10 goals and chipping in with an assist.
On Thursday, 25 BBC Sport pundits gave their picks for Premier League player of the season.
Although Ward opted for Manchester City’s Ruben Dias in the end, she gave an honourable mention to Soucek.
“My number two is Tomas Soucek at West Ham because he is a result of some fantastic recruitment,” she said.
“He and Vladimir Coufal have both improved the team but Soucek shows exactly what a top-class box-to-box midfielder can do.
“His form, his goals and his defensive work have helped West Ham to get where they are… I was torn between Soucek and Dias for number one.”
Soucek has played a pivotal role for West Ham this season, having helped to transform the team, and the plaudits are rightly heading his way.
The East Londoners now need just a point at home to Southampton on Sunday to secure sixth and qualify for the Europa League.
