BBC pundit says Rodrigo looks a completely different player as Leeds win

Matt Kilgallon has told BBC Radio Leeds that Rodrigo looks a completely different player after Leeds United beat Chelsea in incredible fashion at Elland Road on Sunday.

Jesse Marsch has gone a long way to silencing any remaining doubters with a tactical masterclass against the Blues. Leeds were outstanding as they won 3-0.

Brenden Aaronson and Jack Harrison will take many of the plaudits. The pair were sensational. But it was another amazing showing from Rodrigo.

The Spaniard was the surprise early pace-setter in the race for the golden boot. He scored three goals in the opening two games. And now, he has yet another.

Rodrigo scored a superb header to double Leeds’ lead during the first-half. It was another classy finish from the forward, who has obviously had a difficult time since joining the Whites.

Rodrigo has struggled to silence his critics since becoming Leeds’ record signing. And he has not lived up to expectations. But something appears to have happened to the 31-year-old this season.

In fact, Kilgallon suggested that the former Valencia man looks like a player transformed in the early stages of this campaign.

“His work-rate, his touch on the ball, his awareness,” he told BBC Radio Leeds. “He’s confident, he’s a completely different player. He’s enjoying playing with Roca in there and Tyler Adams and linking up with Aaronson. I think everything, it suits him. He’s getting more of the ball.

“Absolutely brilliant.”

Leeds have made a brilliant start to the season. And what will be just as encouraging that a few key players are yet to heavily feature.

Luis Sinisterra has only made a couple of substitute appearances so far. Meanwhile, Patrick Bamford was missing on Sunday after picking up a knock in the previous game.

The Whites now have depth. And with Rodrigo absolutely flying right now, there is definitely an opportunity for Leeds to enjoy a fantastic season.
