BBC pundit says Leeds star “frustrated the life” out of Manchester United

Garth Crooks was full of praise for Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips after his weekend performance against Manchester United.

The Whites recorded an impressive 0-0 draw on Sunday at Elland Road to stretch their unbeaten run to six games.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are currently ninth in the table, picking up five points from their previous three matches against Man United, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Phillips, who earns £35,000-a-week (Salary Sport), was at the heart of a spirited Leeds display against second-placed opponent Man United.

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder was a colossus in front of the backline with tackles, interceptions and quality on the ball.

BBC pundit Crooks hailed the Leeds-born ace after including him in his latest Premier League Team of the Week segment.

“I’ve mentioned Philips before in my team of the week and rate him very highly. His performance against [Bruno] Fernandes was impressive. The England midfielder not only relished the battle with the Portuguese star but frustrated the life out of United,” Crooks wrote for BBC Sport.

If there were still doubters about Phillips’ spot in the England national team squad, then they should watch his performances in the past few games against top level opposition.

The deep-lying playmaker is so comfortable to receive possession in any position on the pitch, and is a talisman for the Yorkshire giants.

He pretty much marked one of the Premier League’s very best in Bruno Fernandes out of the game at the weekend, proving that he can mix it with the elite.
