BBC pundit says Leeds player did not look happy when substituted off against Brighton

Matt Upson claimed during Leeds United’s defeat to Brighton that centre-forward Patrick Bamford looked visibly frustrated, especially after being substituted off during the second half.

Leeds were soundly beaten 2-0 away to Brighton on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League.

Pascal Gross and Danny Welbeck were on the scoresheet for Brighton, who looked a far more attacking threat than their opponents.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds have been in excellent form lately, but without Kalvin Phillips in the XI looked miles off the pace.

BBC pundit Upson said during coverage of the Whites defeat that Bamford had a tough game leading the attack, and noticed real frustration on his face.

The 27-year-old striker was substituted off on the hour mark after barely having a kick in the final third.

“A fair substitution to take Patrick Bamford off. He’s not been involved at all,” Upson said.

“His facial expression as he left the pitch and went straight down the tunnel tells it all. He’s not happy with his performance this afternoon and clearly his manager isn’t either.”

TBR’s View:

It’s been a superb individual season from Bamford, but he won’t want it to fade out like it’s threatening to do.

The left-footed forward has 14 goals and eight assists in the Premier League this campaign, which has surpassed the expectations of most. However, he’s now on a five-game run without scoring.

He didn’t get much service to work with during his hour on the pitch against Brighton, and should be determined to now finish the season strongly.
