Tottenham ended a miserable week in miserable weather with yet another poor result, as Newcastle beat them 2-1 in North London today.
Goals from Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron proved enough for the Magpies to see off Tottenham, who only responded through a close-range Harry Kane header. Other than that, there were few opportunities for the home side, who looked leggy and out of sorts.

Indeed, they looked ragged throughout and one moment that summed how the day would go was when Eric Dier played an atrocious back-pass to Hugo Lloris. And it was a moment the BBC’s Clinton Morrison picked up, who insisted it could have been even worse had Lloris been in between his goal.
“Eric Dier put some pace on that! He wasn’t looking and Lloris was backpedalling. If that was on target, Lloris wouldn’t have saved that,” Morrison commented on BBC comms.
Of course, Lloris would go on to have a nightmare moment anyway as he tried to win a foul from a collision with Callum Wilson. The ref and then VAR saw nothing wrong, as Wilson simply lobbed Lloris for the opener.
In the end, it was just a poor day overall for Spurs and Antonio Conte. Injuries or not, things need to be better and Conte faces another big week on the training pitch.
TBR’s View: Dier Back Pass To Lloris Set The Mood
It was a minor thing in the end but it did sum up the sloppiness on display at times from Tottenham. They looked a side unsure on what Conte wanted from them, and there was a nervousness about Spurs.
This just proved it right from the opening 30 minutes and Dier and Lloris essentially set the tone for a nightmare afternoon.
Tottenham have to be better. Conte was moaning after the game again but after being backed in the summer, he needs to get more from his team.
