Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson received criticism from BBC Sport pundit Michael Brown during Spurs’ loss to West Ham on Thursday night.
The Tottenham attacker began brightly, but faded as the game went on. He got into good positions in the first half, but couldn’t make the most of his opportunities.
Then, in the second half, Johnson struggled to make an impact, and Ange Postecoglou took him off with 10 minutes to go.
After a spurned opportunity from the £47.5million man midway through the second half, Brown made his feelings clear on Radio 5 Live.
“Johnson had to wait for it and went with the side-foot but he didn’t catch it,” he said, as per the BBC Sport website. “Everything he has hit tonight has been tame.”
Tottenham gem Brennan Johnson has plenty of time to improve
The 22-year-old has looked bright for the most part since joining Tottenham from Nottingham Forest in the latter stages of the summer transfer window.
Most of Tottenham’s players simply weren’t at the races on Thursday night, and it’s now as though Johnson was particularly bad. Far from it.
Aside from the finishing, Johnson did well. Once he becomes more decisive with his final ball, he’ll no doubt be a force to be reckoned with.

He’s just 22, so he’ll get there. He has plenty of time to improve.
Nonetheless, it wasn’t a great display from Spurs, and Postecoglou will have to go back to the drawing board in order to stop this increasingly concerning downturn in form.
Tottenham have five games between now and New Year’s Day. Up next for Spurs is a home game against Newcastle on Sunday.
Then, the Lilywhites head to Johnson’s former club Nottingham Forest on Friday 15 December, before hosting Everton on 23 December.
After Christmas, Spurs head to Brighton on 28 December before finishing off the year with a home meeting with Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve.
