BBC pundit raves about 'extraordinary' Liverpool star after win over Burnley
Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold for his efforts in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Burnley. The right-back has earned a place in the BBC Sport pundit’s Team of the Week for his level of performance during the win.
The Liverpool star missed Euro 2020 after picking up an injury during a warm-up game. That appears to have benefitted the youngster and he’s begun 2021/22 in quality form.
Alexander-Arnold registered an assist during the clash against the Clarets. His sublime pass found Sadio Mane who was on hand to put the seal on the Liverpool victory.
That moment of magic was the exact reason that Crooks decided to put the talented defender into his Team of the Week. He admitted that he had considered Tino Livramento from Southampton for the right-back spot.
It was the Liverpool ace who got the nod though, with Crooks blown away by his performance levels.
He told BBC Sport: “Livramento put in a notable performance but compared to Alexander-Arnold against Burnley, I had no choice.
“The Liverpool and England international didn’t just spray the ball around Anfield with extraordinary precision but he produced a simply exquisite ball for Sadio Mane to score.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a full-back strike a ball so cleanly with both feet.”
Alexander-Arnold thriving with Liverpool faithful behind him
The Liverpool player’s form dropped off last season. At one stage, his form was so bad that Gareth Southgate didn’t even select him for his England squad.
By the end of the campaign, he has earned that place back and now his confidence looks to be higher than it has been over the last 12 months.
That bodes well for Liverpool and after just two games, Klopp’s team look a lot less chaotic than they did during the second half of 2020/21.
Alexander-Arnold is a massive player for Liverpool and the Reds will hope the £180,000-a-week player continues improving.
