BBC pundit names 48-year-old as the “only man” to be next permanent Tottenham manager

Garth Crooks has claimed that Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers is the “only man” Tottenham should be looking to appoint as their next manager.

Spurs, who have Ryan Mason as interim boss until the end of the season, will need to find a permanent manager to replace recently sacked Jose Mourinho.

It was a turbulent time last week for the Spurs fans. Amid all the controversy of the proposed European Super League, Mourinho was sacked, plus they lost in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday to Manchester City.

BBC pundit Crooks has insisted current Leicester boss Rodgers is an ideal replacement for Mourinho.

Rodgers, 48, is enjoying a superb season with the Foxes. His side are third in the Premier League table in a great position to finish in the Champions League positions, as well as being in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

The Northern Irishman has been linked though with Spurs. According to the Sun, he’s the top target for Daniel Levy this summer.

“I might make Chelsea slight favourites for the FA Cup final but I’ve just got a funny feeling it might be Leicester and Brendan Rodgers’ year. However none of that must deter Tottenham Hotspur from trying to get Rodgers to fulfil their vacant managerial post. He’s the only man for the job right now,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

TBR’s View:

If you’re any manager looking at the Spurs job right now, you’ll see there is a lot of work to do if you take charge of the north London club.

They have some top-class talents providing they keep the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son in the summer, but overall the squad does need some significant improvement.

It’s a decent group that is underachieving right now considering it’s not in the top four, but to really kick on to win silverware they need five or six signings.

Rodgers, who is adored by Leicester fans, is a couple of years into his project at the King Power Stadium of building his squad. It would be somewhat of a surprise if he jumps ship now.

However, people will point out he did just that when he left Scottish giants Celtic for Leicester back in 2019.
