Garth Crooks has labelled James Maddison a lovely footballer after the 26-year-old opened his account at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night, suggesting that the attacking midfielder is made for Spurs.
Crooks was writing for BBC Sport as he included the England international in his team of the week after Ange Postecoglou’s side beat Fulham 2-0 on Monday.
James Maddison could have hardly wished for a better start to life at Tottenham. He has been directly involved in eight goals in nine Premier League games for the club. And his latest goal came against Marco Silva’s side, sliding the ball past Bernd Leno to double Spurs’ lead.

Maddison was pulling all of the strings throughout the game. Speaking on Sky Sports, Alan Smith suggested that Fulham could not get near Maddison during the contest.
Garth Crooks says James Maddison is made for Tottenham
And Garth Crooks has now claimed that the playmaker is just absolutely perfect for Tottenham – even if he should be scoring a few more goals.

“This player was made for this club. Not since Christian Eriksen have Spurs had a real football technician in midfield,” he told BBC Sport.
“He scored his first goal at home for the club against Fulham but this is a player who should be scoring on a far more regular basis. He does however have the ability to carve open the opposition almost at will and create openings for others to put the ball in the back of the net. He’s a lovely footballer and has Spurs playing proper football again.”
Spurs have to be taken seriously
Maddison is definitely staking a stronger and stronger claim to be considered the signing of the summer. Few players have had a greater impact in the Premier League so far this season.
And it is remarkable to think that he cost Tottenham £40 million, according to Sky Sports. In today’s game, that is an absolute steal.
He is forming an unbelievable partnership with Son Heung-min. And he has taken no time to take the talisman mantle from Harry Kane following the striker’s summer switch to Bayern Munich.
And it has helped to take Tottenham to the summit of the Premier League table. Certainly, if Postecoglou can keep Maddison for the entirety of the season, many are going to have to start taking Spurs seriously when it comes to title contenders.
As things stand, Tottenham will fancy their chances of getting the better of any team in the division with Maddison and Son in this form.
