'Remember this guy': ITV pundit tells Liverpool fans to get excited, amid reports
Liverpool are being linked with a move for Argentina and Benfica midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, and Pablo Zabaleta has been singing his praises.
Fernandez was the hero for the South American’s last night. He scored the second goal against Mexico to underline his potential as a top midfielder in Europe.
Of course, Fernandez is an interesting one on these shores thanks to interest from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United. And his goal against Mexico will have got the pulses racing somewhat on Merseyside.
And adding further weight to the potential of Fernandez, former Manchester City right-back Pablo Zabaleta told ITV Sport today
“Remember this guy because next summer he will go to one of the biggest teams in Europe, I’m sure. Really good player, he’s only 21, he has great potential,” Zabaleta said while in the studio.
A new midfielder has become something of a priority for Liverpool of late. A raft of injuries in addition to what many see as a midfield past its best mean the pressure is on FSG to spend in January.
Fernandez’s goal was just a glimpse of his talent. And if he can continue to produce, then Zabaleta’s comments here might ring true.
TBR’s View: Fernandez looks a talent Liverpool could do with
Enzo Fernandez produced when it mattered last night for Argentina. A lot of footballers can have big moments and not go on to better things. But the way he composed himself and tucked it into the top corner v Mexico showed his class.
Liverpool will have liked what they saw from Fernandez. He has that typical Argentinian bite about him but also the quality and composure to effect games in the final third.
Should Liverpool land him in January or beyond, then he’s a great signing. He’ll only get better, too, and Reds fans will be intrigued by how he does in the rest of the World Cup.
