'Conduct and professionalism': BBC pundit in awe of Arsenal player, he loved first-half moment in particular
BBC pundit Garth Crooks has selected Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka in his team of the week and praised the Swiss star for his attitude.
Crooks selected Xhaka in his regular team of the week for the BBC and spoke kindly about the Arsenal man, who got himself on the scoresheet to seal the win against Tottenham.
Xhaka seems to have a new lease of life under Mikel Arteta and Crooks was keen to pick up on the exemplary attitude and professionalism the midfielder is now showing.
“It’s not that long ago I was condemning Granit Xhaka for his lack of discipline, especially in the big games for Arsenal. Now I find myself congratulating him for his conduct and professionalism,” Crooks wrote.
“I was particularly taken by the way he corralled his team-mates after Arsenal’s first goal against their north London rivals, in an attempt to retain an element of composure in the red-hot atmosphere.”
Of course, Xhaka has come a long way since the days of being sent off and falling out with the Arsenal fans.
Now playing further forward, Xhaka is revelling in the new system. So much so, that Jamie O’Hara even claimed Spurs allowed Xhaka to look like Real Madrid legend Guti at times.
TBR’s View: Xhaka Like A New Arsenal Signing
It’s always a massive bonus when a current player turns things around so much and Xhaka is acting like a new player for the Gunners right now.
After spending so big in the last few windows, Arsenal needed some of their existing contingent to do the business as well as the new players. And Xhaka is certainly stepping up to the plate.
Xhaka now seems un-droppable for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal fans must be loving what they’re seeing from their man.
