Newcastle absolutely hammered Aston Villa at St James’ Park today as Miguel Almiron continued his fine run of form for the Toon.

Almiron has been like a new player this season under Eddie Howe and he continued his fine goalscoring form to ensure the Magpies saw off Villa 4-0. Callum Wilson helped himself to two goals as well, as Newcastle showed they’re very much up for the fight of challenging for Europe.

And while Wilson got plenty of plaudits in the game himself, the BBC’s Dion Dublin felt Miguel Almiron deserved high praise as well.

“Almiron is very similar to Bernardo Silva who loves to get on his left-foot and tries to curl it into the top corner. He’s done it two or three times now. The style and confidence of the young lad is amazing,” Dublin said on BBC comms.

Almiron’s goal made it three in the last three for him personally. It’s now also seven for the season for the Paraguay star, who has quickly become a favourite among the Geordies.

TBR’s View: Almiron and Newcastle flying under Eddie Howe

What a season this is turning into for Newcastle, Eddie Howe, and Miguel Almiron. The forward has been nothing short of sensational and Dublin’s comments here are justified.

Being compared to Bernardo Silva is high praise and in fairness, it’s not far off. Almiron is arguably more dynamic than Silva as well, given his bursts into the box.

Either way, this was a statement performance from both Almiron and Newcastle. Eddie Howe deserves so much credit for what he is doing at the club. And while shadows will always hang over other issues Howe has to answer questions on at times, on the footballing side, he is doing brilliantly.
