BBC pundit hails Arsenal attacker after Europa League performance

Chris Waddle raved about the quality of Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette as a goalscorer after his Thursday display.

The £182,000-a-week (Spotrac) Frenchman scored twice for the Gunners during a crucial Europa League match.

If anyone needed a reminder of how good Arsenal can be on their day, they showed their ability with a superb 4-0 away victory over Slavia Prague to qualify for the Europa League semi-finals.

Mikel Arteta’s side ended up cruising into the last four with a 5-1 aggregate win, which begs the question of why his team have looked so average for spells of this season.

The north London club have saved a lot of their best work for Europe, and they dismantled Slavia in style.

On top of his converted penalty, Lacazette showed his killer instincts as a finisher with his second goal. He feinted to shoot in the box to create space for himself, before tucking away a low left-footed finish.

BBC pundit Waddle hailed the 29-year-old after his second goal against Slavia:

“When Alexandre Lacazette is on his game he is a goalscorer. It was a great first touch and he smashes it past the keeper. When he is on his game you can see why he has scored a lot of goals in his career. It was a great goal,” Waddle told BBC Radio 5 Live.

TBR’s View:

Lacazette, who is currently in his fourth season at the Emirates Stadium, has always been someone capable in front of goal.

He’s scored 65 goals in 165 appearances for Arsenal. Additionally, he netted 129 times in 275 games for former club Lyon.

If his current form continues from now until the end of the season, it will be interesting to see how the Gunners resolve his future as he’s due to enter the final year of his contract with them this summer.

He’s now up to 17 goals across all competitions this campaign, and was influential spearheading the attack last night.
