Tottenham really turned up the heat in the race for the top four on Sunday.

Indeed, a 4-0 win against Aston Villa at the weekend has put Spurs in the box seat to go and claim fourth place as they sit two points behind the Villans with a game in hand now.

Tottenham were utterly brilliant against Villa at the weekend, and, as ever, James Maddison was on top form.

Speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton has been full of praise for Maddison after this showing against Villa, claiming that the midfielder was brilliant and he seems to be getting better with every single game he plays at the moment.

James Maddison is improving every week

Sutton spoke highly of the 27-year-old.

“It was proper Ange ball, Tottenham are just two points behind Villa with the game in hand. Maddison is getting better with every game, Son, phenomenal. Everyone is talking about Arsenal, but Tottenham, what a season you have had,” Sutton said.

Back to his best

Make no mistake about it, James Maddison was one of the best players in the Premier League over the first two months of this season.

The midfielder was incredible for Spurs before picking up his injury against Chelsea, and while he didn’t quite hit the same heights upon his return, he’s now getting into a rhythm and getting back to his very best.

Maddison has been incredible for Tottenham in recent weeks, and as Sutton says, he appears to be improving in every single game he plays right now.

Whether or not Maddison can carry this form through until the end of the season remains to be seen, but if he can, Tottenham will surely be playing Champions League football next term.

Maddison has been one of the signings of the season, and he’s made a huge impact since arriving in north London.
