BBC pundit and self-proclaimed Arsenal fan, Alex Scott, has urged people to look at the bigger picture and not just blame Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the Gunners’ struggles.
Scott, speaking on Football Focus today, led a discussion with Michah Richards about the problems currently engulfing the Gunners.
Arsenal have been poor in the Premier League this season. They have scored just nine goals, while the aforementioned Aubameyang has managed just the two goals since signing a new deal in the summer.
But Scott, seemingly defending the Gabon star, defended Aubameyang and said that it’s not simply down to him to sort Arsenal’s problems.
“People are talking about Aubameyang and saying he’s not scored and focussing on him. But I think people need to look at the bigger picture.
“Is he getting the service? Is the balance right? Is he getting the balls that he needs to be successful? You can’t just look at him, it’s a squad thing.”
Aubameyang signed a mega-money deal in the summer and being the skipper, is expected to be leading by example for the Gunners.
However, Mikel Arteta has seen his star man struggle, with fellow pundits like Paul Merson criticising the striker in recent weeks.
Scott has a point but Aubameyang does need to do more – TBR View
The point about maybe not getting the chances and service from his teammates is a good one but on the other hand, Aubameyang needs to do far more.
He’s meant to be the club’s talisman and leading from the front. Instead, he’s almost shirking his responsibilities and offering little at the moment.
Scott, as we all do, knows his quality and will be looking for more from the Gabon international over Christmas.
