Bayern one to watch in race to sign Manchester United star; Vincent Kompany likes him

Journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested that Bayern Munich cannot be discounted in a potential race to sign one Manchester United player this summer, with Vincent Kompany an admirer.

It is going to be so intriguing to see what business Manchester United do over the summer, particularly with INEOS looking to make an impression as they continue their overhaul at Old Trafford.

But of course, one of the crucial factors which will determine what United can do in the transfer window is the players they manage offload – and that may be easier said than done after a campaign in which Erik ten Hag’s men registered their lowest league finish in Premier League history.

There were few positives for Manchester United this season, with only a handful of players managing to impress.

Bayern Munich could make move for Manchester United player

One player who actually had a reasonable season was Harry Maguire, when you consider the amount of criticism that he has had to deal with.

But perhaps there is a question mark over his future, with Jacobs telling The United Stand that there is a chance that Bayern Munich consider a move.

“I think with Maguire, they’re never going to say no to an offer that’s too good to turn down, but he’s been outstanding this season and proved a lot of critics wrong. So I don’t think he’s there on a list of transfer listed players, but what I would say is if the right offer comes in, then Manchester United, if it’s the player’s desire to go as well and get the regular first-team football, if Manchester United say that his minutes are going to be further diminished, then yeah, that one can’t be ruled out, and the same can be said for Scott McTominay as well,” he said.

“West Ham United still have an interest in Harry Maguire, and I’m told as well, Bayern, even though they signed Eric Dier, might be a club to watch. But the thing about Bayern is this was all in Tuchel’s era, and before board upheaval so everything’s changing at Bayern and is very fluid. But they still may want another centre-back, so don’t rule out that one as well, because I know that Vincent Kompany has a lot of respect for Harry Maguire.”

What Harry Kane recently said about Harry Maguire

It really would be remarkable if Kompany attempted to combine Eric Dier and Maguire in Bavaria next season, with both proving to be divisive figures in recent years.

But Maguire may relish the chance to move to the Allianz Arena, particularly as it would see him reunited with a good friend in Harry Kane.

Kane recently joked that Maguire is the player who comes to mind when asked to name someone he associates with the word ‘scary’, and they have been amongst the leaders of the England squad for some time now.

Maguire has fought this hard to change perceptions at Manchester United, so it would be a surprise if he was ready to throw in the towel this summer.

But, as Jacobs suggests, if his role looks set to be more peripheral next year, he may be more tempted to consider his options – particularly if Bayern are one of those who come to the table.
