Bayern Munich tried to sign £62m Chelsea player late in the January transfer window

Chelsea managed to have a quiet transfer window for a change but that didn’t stop clubs coming knocking for their own players.

The Blues have a big squad of young talent that has been assembled to the tune of around £1bn since Todd Boehly and partners took over the club.

However, a lot of those young talents have failed to really get going. Indeed, the biggest disappointment of all so far has been the form of Ukrainian winger, Mykhaylo Mudryk. The £62m man has been really poor and delivered nowhere near expectation.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, the fact he is down the pecking order under Pochettino led Bayern to making a cheeky bid for him in January.

Bayern Munich tried to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk in January

According to Romano, speaking on his Here We Go Podcast, the German giants asked about signing Mudryk before the window slammed shut.

“Before bringing in Bryan Zaragoza, Bayern, they asked about the possibility of signing Mykhaylo Mudryk from Chelsea. He is a player appreciated by Bayern and they feel in this moment he is not playing on a regular basis and so they tried. But from Chelsea, there was not even a discussion and in hours Bayern knew it was not possible to discuss for Mudryk,” Romano said.

Mudryk needs a loan move

It has been a hugely underwhelming spell at Chelsea so far for Mudryk, who was one of the hottest stories of the entire window back in January of 2023.

After all the clamour from Arsenal and others to sign him, he’s just nothing for Chelsea and looks a mile of the pace and level of a top Premier League player.

Of course, that might come as he develops but you could make a strong argument to say a loan move is needed for him as well.

Quite whether playing for a below par Bayern Munich would have done the job is open to debate. But a loan in general might help Mudryk, who really needs to find his mojo again.
